SlateyTv Melbourne, Australia C# Software Developer

Who is SlateyTV? TBH, a really cool guy that you could probably learn a lot from! And someone who is happy to share what he knows. We recently did a little Q/A. Here’s what we found out:

Real name: Scott

Alter ego: SlateyTV

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Powers/abilities: C/C++, C#/.NET, SQL

Username: http://livecoding.tv/SlateyTV

Questions:

Q: When did you first hear about Livecoding.tv? What was your first reaction?

A: I heard about Livecoding.tv around March 2015 and only cared to use it because it had lower latency than Twitch.tv at the time for watching Whilke’s stream.

Q: Do you have any suggestions/messages for the team?

A: We are still waiting for the API that has been promised for several months, almost as long as I have been streaming.

Q: Share an interesting moment/experience you had as a streamer/viewer on Livecoding.tv.

A: I strive for viewer engagement but this often doesn’t happen. I had a great experience one stream while working on my own project that viewers started asking me questions about doing things in UE4 and I was glad to show how I would achieve the requests. It was more fun than doing my own project.

Q: As a streamer/viewer, do you have anything to say to your streamers/viewers?

A: It would be great to see more interaction between streamers and viewers.

Q: What role, if any, do you think Livecoding.tv is playing in the promotion/learning of programming/ coding?

A: Personally, I know programming so I don’t use LCTV as a learning tool. Others may learn from me, but I am not sure to what degree.

Q: If you were a programming language, which one would you be and why?

A: C# – Modern, sophisticated, can do everything with varying degrees of difficulty, and an equal amount of likes and dislikes from my peers and viewers.

Q: What does it take to be a good programmer?

A: Motivation. You can do anything if you are motivated enough to do it.

Q: Does coding help in anyway in imparting social skills? Explain.

A: Coding has a negative effect on social skills. It’s much easier to control a computer than your other social interactions so you might find yourself in front of a computer more than wanting to talk to others.

Q: What do you do when you are called for lunch/dinner while coding?

A: Go to lunch or dinner. There is nothing I am coding that can’t wait till I have finished eating.

Q: If monkeys were to code, what sort of programs would they create or what be their favorite programming language?

A: Ok, I’ll play along though my imagination is shot right now. A monkey would program games using Monkey-X (check it out http://www.monkey-x.com/)
